We can undertake any aspect of the MCERTS inspection process, from design through to advice on installation, the inspection itself and arranging a Quality Management System (QMS) audit. We also offer training and annual calibration and verification services.

What is MCERTS?

MCERTS is the UK Environment Agency’s Monitoring Certification Scheme for equipment, personnel and organisations. It provides a delivery vehicle for compliance with the European Union Directives that regulate industrial emissions, monitoring data, equipment and personnel.

The scheme is built around proven International and European standards to ensure that monitoring data is of a sufficiently high standard. MCERTS promotes public confidence in monitoring data, equipment and personnel and provides a framework for choosing monitoring equipment and services that meet the Environment Agency’s specifications.

The scheme was launched in April 2003 to fulfil the Environment Agency’s obligation under the Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive. This allows environmental measurements to be made in accordance with the Agency’s quality requirements under the MCERTS framework.

In the case of flow monitoring, this means that any discharge consent that is above 50 m3/day or that has MCERTS compliance stated within the consent requires an MCERTS certificate.
