It has a lower profile design, which reduces the space under odour control covers, so there is less air to be purified and energy costs are reduced. The circular tank scraper’s electric drive is located on the perimeter tank wall with a static electrical connection point meaning no sliprings are needed. With few moving parts, the Zickert Rotating Sludge Scraper requires less frequent maintenance and is less subject to mechanical wear than conventional bridge scrapers.

The Zickert™ Rotating Sludge Scraper is designed for circular tank applications, and can be used on primary, secondary, humus and activated sludge processes. Surface scrapers can be attached to the bottom scraper so that any build-up of scum can be removed via a conventional scum beach and box arrangement. The rotational speed, and even the number of single or double scraper arms, can be varied to allow for the ideal configuration for any given application.
As the Zickert™ Rotating Sludge Scraper has a very low profile and a fixed electrical motor point, it is simple to cover and uses much less headspace. This means that it is less expensive to cover, because it requires a much smaller odour control unit to handle any odours generated. On average 80% less air requires treatment with this system.
The Zickert™ Rotating Sludge Scraper does not require a bridge, walkway, handrail, or slip rings, making the system particularly economical for large tanks which would normally require big structures.
The fixed location of the drive motor allows easy access to the key maintenance points, with no need to cross the tanks on a moving bridge.
A fixed drive unit mounted on the periphery of the tank powers a ladder drive ring running around the tank’s circumference. This powers a bottom scraper blade held in place by a central bearing unit.
The bottom scraper blades are rotated by a circular rail located inside the tank wall, moving settled sludge to the collection point.

A surface scraper can be mounted on the bottom scraper unit to remove any scum build up. Where surface scum has to be skimmed off, the scraper frame is equipped with an additional top blade which directs scum to a scum beach and trough on the tank perimeter.
The scraper section is supported by its own wheels, allowing the drive ring and central support to hold the bottom sludge scraper in position without additional stresses.
With only the motor/gearbox protruding above the tank wall, low profile covers can be easily deployed for odour control.
The drive shaft, drive wheel, support brackets, scraper, and circumference ring are made from lightweight stainless steel. The principal material is either 304 or 316 stainless steel depending on the salinity of the water to be treated.
The drive wheel bearings, support bracket guides, and the central support section are made from hard wearing POM (polyoxymethylene); the scraper blades are made of rubber.
