Spot Flow Measurement

Get flow data to improve the accuracy of your long-term measuring sites and to help you make better water management decisions.

Spot flow gauging involves the measurement of discharge at a given location at a single point in time.

The techniques required for spot flow gauging vary depending upon the size and nature of the watercourse. Our Hydro International consulting monitoring and measurement experts will select the best technique and equipment for your site to ensure that you receive high quality data every time.

Our wide range of flow monitoring equipment and considerable experience mean that we are able to measure the flow in virtually every open channel situation.

In order to get the best available data, it is important to use the right tools for the job. To ensure accurate, reliable data we use the following range of equipment:

  • Rotating element current meters
  • Electromagnetic current meters
  • Acoustic current meters
  • Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCP)
  • Dilution gauging equipment

Our ADCPs can also be used for bathymetric surveys, cross-sectional surveys and to provide detailed velocity contour plots.
