Hydro International welcomes three new apprentices

Hydro International’s UK Wastewater Services Team, M&N, is pleased to announce the appointment of two new engineering apprentices to their Portland office and a new electrical engineering apprentice to their Dumfries office.

Two new apprentices at the Portland site.Reef Butler and Sidney Swingler joined us in September 2021 and are the latest engineering apprentices to join the team in Portland. They are enrolled at Weymouth College to complete a Level 2 Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) where they will attend two days a week, alongside three days a week in our Portland workshop.

The apprentices will gain valuable hands-on experience alongside engineers and electrical engineers in the workshop, giving them a real insight to the day-to-day work we undertake to support the water industry. Gary Curtis, Workshop Manager in Portland, will be mentoring our new apprentices and has an in-depth schedule for their learning.

New apprentice for the Dumfries site.At the opposite end of the country in Dumfries, Scotland, the team are pleased to announce the appointment of Travis Kelting as an electrical engineering apprentice. Travis will be working towards his PEO – Electrical course at Dumfries & Galloway College part-time, whilst working at the UK Wastewater Services Dumfries site for the rest of the week.

The combination of theoretical and on-site learning will teach the apprentices engineering and job-specific skills, knowledge and behaviours that can be transferred across the manufacturing engineering industry sectors. The qualifications will be verified via practical assessments and professional discussions, and will take between 12-18 months to complete.

Ian Drummond, Director UK Wastewater Services, comments, “Our apprenticeships are crucial to our industry and provide a valuable route into the Wastewater sector. The combination of hands-on experience and in-depth technical learning, resulting in recognised academic qualifications provides a solid platform for our new recruits to further develop their understanding of their chosen career. We have a highly successful apprenticeship programme at Hydro International and wish our new recruits the best of luck!”
