Heliscreen^® cuts sewer overflow into an urban watercourse, preventing pollution by visually offensive material.

Situation

Yorkshire Water needed to undertake two combined sewer overflow (CSO) upgrade projects in urban Sheffield to improve the city’s water quality in order to meet UK Environment Agency standards.

Problem

During heavy rainfall the existing CSO chamber overflowed into the watercourse, causing pollution by visually offensive material.

Solution

Yorkshire Water installed twin Heliscreen^® units in double high-sided weirs.

Outcome

The Heliscreen® units were supplied with custom stainless steel flow channels, which enabled complete mechanical installation within one day, and the installed units enabled Yorkshire Water to meet the Environment Agency's standards.

The Heliscreen^® is an efficient, versatile and cost-effective unit. The Heliscreen® installations at Carlisle Street and Atlas Works were completed on time and within our normal 10-12 week delivery period.
